KALABURAGI: A couple ended their lives by jumping into the Bennithora river from the Kurakoti bridge in Kamalapur taluk on Monday. While the man’s body was found, rescuers were continuing the search for the woman.
The deceased was identified as Anil Kumar Mulage (37), hailing from Kunisangavi village in Aland taluk. The identity of the woman was not immediately known. The Mahagaon police were at the spot as expert swimmers were conducting a search for the woman.
In another case, the burnt body of a woman, whose head was smashed with boulders, was near Nagoor village in Kamalapur taluk on Monday. The victim was identified as Basamma, a resident of Jagat Extension in Kalaburagi.
It is suspected that she was murdered yesterday by smashing her head and her body burnt to conceal her identity. Fingerprint experts and a dog squad were at the scene and a case has been registered at the Mahagaon police station. Further investigation is under way.
