UDUPI: A couple was attacked by a group of youths, reportedly high on ganja, at the Malpe beach over a parking issue on Friday night. The youths also allegedly snatched a gold chain the woman was wearing and fled the scene.
The couple were walking along the beach and making some purchases when the youths suddenly attacked them. Before the couple could realise what was happening, the youths fled. Others at the scene were also left wondering what had happened.
The injured couple are now undergoing treatment at the district hospital. A case has been registered at the Malpe police station and further investigation is under way.
The couple, Shekar Tingalaya and his wife Geetha, have alleged in their complaint that they were attacked by Prakash, Sagar, Charan, Yeshwanth, Kishore, Raja and others. They have demanded that the accused be subjected to medical tests after their arrest.
Of late, there have been several instances of violence involving youths hooked to ganja and also peddling. Locals and tourists have alleged that the police have failed to control the peddling of ganja in Manipal and at the Malpe beach.
