BENGALURU: The Delhi High Court has ordered actor Rakshit Shetty and Paramvah Studios to deposit Rs 20 lakh for copyright infringement.

MRT Music had approached the Delhi High Court alleging copyright infringement by Rakshit Shetty and Paramvah Studios for using two songs in their film ‘Bachelor Party’ without permission from the MRT Music.

A complaint in this regard was filed by Naveen Kumar of MRT Music alleging that two songs, ‘Nyaya Ellide’ from the movie of the same name and ‘Omme Ninnannu’ from ‘Gaali Maathu’ were used unauthorisedly in the movie ‘Bachelor Party’ produced by Rakshit Shetty. Both the actor-director and his Paramvah Studios have been made party in the complaint.

Paramvah Studios and Rakshit Shetty had issued an open letter on July 15, 2024, through their Instagram accounts alleging that MRT Music had quoted an exorbitant price for the usage of the two songs and shared the clips of the two songs as used in the film.

Despite opposition, Rakshit questioned whether permission was required to use a small piece of the songs. He had also posted about it on social media.

The High Court had issued a notice to Rakshit Shetty and Paramvah Studios since he failed to appear before the court. It also directed them to take down their Instagram post and link from all social media platforms. In its order on August 12, the Delhi High Court ordered the actor-producer and the studio to pay Rs 20 lakh to MRT Music for refusing to take a licence for usage of the two songs.
