TUMAKURU: A class 1 contractor attempted suicide over unpaid dues after making serious allegations against the managing director of the Visveswaraya Jala Nigam Ltd. In a video, he blamed the official for his death, but is now recuperating at the Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.

The contractor, Sujith, who is also a Pavagada taluk Congress leader, claimed that pending dues of Rs 9 crore had not been released for several years. The MD of VJNL, Sannachittappa, had raised objection regarding the works completed, but after an investigation, it was revealed that all the works awarded to him had been completed, Sujith claimed.

The contractor had taken up work on a road and checkdam under the Special Component Plan (SCP) among others in Pavagada taluk. The funds due to him were not released for years due to political differences, he has claimed. A video he had recorded before attempting suicide has now gone viral on social media.
