DAVANAGERE: The by-election for the Davanagere South constituency is under way, and the Congress and BJP candidates filed their nomination papers on Monday amidst grand processions and show of strength.
The Congress candidate, Samarth Shamanur, offered prayers at the Durgamba Temple, accompanied by his family members, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and other senior leaders. A grand procession was taken out, with the candidate and leaders participating in an open vehicle, showcasing the party’s strength.
The procession started from the Durgamba Temple and passed through major streets of the city, with Congress workers and supporters showing their enthusiasm and support for the candidate.
Meanwhile, the BJP candidate, Srinivas Das Kariyappa, also offered prayers at the temple and filed his nomination paper, accompanied by former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, state president B Y Vijayendra, and other senior leaders.
Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “We have given tickets to deserving candidates, and Samarth Shamanur is one of them. He is the son of a former minister and has the potential to win the election. We will win this election with a huge margin. Our party’s policy is to support the families of those who have contributed to the party.”
He added, “We have implemented various welfare schemes, including the five guarantees, and the people of Karnataka have benefited from them. The Congress party is committed to the development of the state and its people.”
The nomination papers were filed amidst tight security, with both Congress and BJP workers showing their support for their respective candidates. The nomination ceremony was attended by several senior leaders from both parties, including ministers, MPs, and MLAs. The event was marked by a show of strength, with both parties showcasing their support for their respective candidates.
The Congress party has been campaigning aggressively, with several leaders, including CM Siddaramaiah and DCM DK Shivakumar, addressing rallies and processions. The party is confident of winning the election.
Chikkaballapur MLA Pradeep Eshwar, who was present at the nomination ceremony, said, “Samarth Shamanur is a strong candidate, and we are confident of his victory. The Congress party is committed to the development of the state and its people, and we will work together to ensure the victory of our candidate.”
The BJP candidate, Srinivas Das Kariyappa, filed his nomination papers for the Davanagere South by-election amidst a grand procession and show of strength. Kariyappa, accompanied by his wife and BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister Yediyurappa, submitted his papers to the Returning Officer.
Speaking to the media after filing his nomination, Kariyappa said, “This election is about change. I am confident of winning and making history as the son of a humble hamali (porter) entering the state assembly”. He added, “My opponent from Congress is no match for me. I have faith in the people of Davanagere, and I am sure BJP will win this election. Party workers and people are eagerly waiting to cast their votes for BJP.”
The procession, which started from the Durgamba Temple, was marked by a show of strength, with BJP leaders and workers participating in large numbers. Former Chief Minister Yediyurappa, who led the procession, said, “This election is crucial for the development of Davanagere. We are confident of winning and will work towards the betterment of the constituency.”
BJP leaders, including Vijayendra, urged voters to reject the Congress and support their candidate, saying, “The Congress party is only interested in family politics and not in the development of the state. We are committed to the development of Davanagere and will work tirelessly to ensure the victory of our candidate.”The BJP has also been campaigning strongly, with several central leaders, including Pralhad Joshi, visiting the constituency to campaign for their candidate.
