MYSURU: Congress leader Siddaramaiah has expressed confidence of the Congress coming to power in the state. “We are sure of getting majority in the election. Almost all the exit polls are saying the same. I understand the pulse of the people and the result will be as I expect”.

Speaking after polling for the Assembly election came to a close and exit polls were being released, Siddaramaiah said, “Congress seats will increase in the coastal region this time. The Bajrang Dal issue is not controversial and we have explained it very clearly in our manifesto, but the BJP made it a big issue ahead of the election. Where did I say that all Lingayat leaders are corrupt? I said that Basavaraj Bommai is corrupt. But they twisted my words and defamed me”.

On his chances in Varuna segment, Siddaramaiah said, “I am going to win easily from Varuna. There is competition between Congress and JD(S) in Old Mysore region, but here, BJP is not directly competing with us anywhere. Why should the people of Varuna vote for Somanna? What is his contribution to the constituency? They have played the caste card. Apart from that, they have used money power. In Varuna, JD(S) supporters have voted for BJP, but I will still win easily”.

To a query on resort politics this time, he said, “Where is the question of protecting MLAs when we will get full majority? Why are media people spreading news by asking such questions? Why should anyone have such doubts? As per most of all exit polls, Congress will get a majority. We will form the government with full majority”, he added.
