BENGALURU: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday attacked the Congress saying that it trampled upon the Constitutin by imposing Emergency in the country and taking away the rights of people. It is the BJP which is protecting the Constitution and democracy, he said.
Participating in the valedictory of the party state executive committee meeting, held at the Palace Grounds in the city, he said, “The Congress came to power with the ‘Garibi Hatao’ slogan, but has poverty been eradicated? Only the poverty of Congressmen has been eradicated. The youth should be made aware of these dark chapters of history”.
“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has insulted Hindus in Parliament. Secular means to view all religions as equal, but the Congress does not understand this. The BJP does not discriminate against any religion”, Gadkari said.
Further, he said, “What the Congress achieved in over five decades, the Narendra Modi government more in 10 years. The decisions taken by the Modi government have impacted all spheres of life. People’s incomes have doubled, jobs are being created. India’s automobile industry, which was at seventh place, is now at third place overtaking Japan and in the next five years, it will reach the top”.
Earlier in the day, party general secretary in charge of Karnataka, Radha Mohan Das, lauded the party workers and leaders for ensuring 19 Lok Sabha seats for the NDA though a Congress government is in power in the state. “After the next four years, the Congress will be nowhere to be seen and will face a humiliating defeat”, he said.
Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi, Shobha Karandlaje, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra, Opposition leader R Ashoka, MP Govind Karjol, former CM B S Yediyurappa, DV Sadananda Gowda, MLC C T Ravi, former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and others were present in the meeting.
Later in the evening, the BJP core committee held a meeting at Jagannath Bhavan in Malleswaram to discuss bypolls for Shiggaon, Channapatna and Sandur Assembly segments and to take on the Congress government both inside the legislature and outside.
