NEW DELHI : Calling for a ‘strict’ action against Congress leader Randeep Surjewala over his ‘sexist’ remarks against BJP MP and actress Hema Malini, BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi on Thursday said that the Congress party’s thinking is ‘anti-women’.

Lashing out at the Congress leader over his remarks against Hema Malini, Shazia Ilmi, while speaking to ANI said, “The kind of words used and the context in which it was used, for Hema Malini, clearly shows how anti-women the thinking of the Congress party is. The way Randeep Surjewala used that word and the way he insulted her is not just an insult to Hema Malini, it is an insult to women’s power. This is not happening for the first time, recently you saw tweets of Supriya Shrinet for Kangana Ranaut. Till now she has not been able to tell who is that person in the IT cell of Congress who has such disgusting thoughts, who has tweeted this, it is clear that now an attempt is being made to whitewash. Even before that, you will remember what Rahul Gandhi had said about Aishwarya Rai”.

The BJP leader also took on Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi over her ‘double standards’ on women issues.

“On one hand, Priyanka Gandhi says, I am a girl, I can fight and on the other hand, her leaders one by one are saying such disgusting and lewd things about women. Be it a film actress or a common woman, is she not entitled?,” Ilmi said.

“We have approached not only the Haryana Women’s Commission but also the National Commission for Women regarding this issue. And we are continuously registering complaints about this. We want the EC to take cognizance of this and take the strictest action against these people so that next time they do not have the courage to make such indecent remarks against women,” she added.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala on Thursday clarified that he never intended to insult or hurt the actor-politician.

Surjewala’s clarification comes after BJP’s IT department head Amit Malviya shared an undated video on X and accused the Congress MP of making some objectionable remarks about Hema Malini.

Referring to this, Surjewala said that the video posted by the BJP leader has been edited, distorted and shared to distract the country from the Modi government’s anti-youth, anti-farmer, anti-poor policies and its conspiracy to destroy the Constitution of India.

“BJP’s IT Cell has developed a habit of editing, distorting and spreading fake news so that it can distract the country from the Modi government’s anti-youth, anti-farmer, anti-poor policies and failures and its conspiracy to destroy the Constitution of India,” he said.

“Listen to the full video – I said, “We also respect Hema Malini a lot because she is married to Dharmendra ji and is our daughter-in-law,” the Congress leader added. (ANI)
