BENGALURU: Congress MLA B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, who had skipped summons from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) twice, appeared before the investigating agency for questioning in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

The ACB had earlier raided Khan’s residence and offices and seized documents related to disproportionate assets. Notices were issued to him twice to appear for questioning, but he had dodged it on the grounds of Bakrid and Siddaramaiah’s 75th birthday celebrations.

On Saturday, he reached the ACB office at 11 am and was questioned by ACB Superintendent of Police P Yatish Chandra and Deputy SP P Ravishankar.

Zameer Ahmed is accused of amassing wealth 2,031 per cent in excess of his known sources of income. As per his declaration with the Income Tax department, his immovable properties are worth Rs 73,9435,027. His income is Rs 4,30,48,790 in 17 years between 2005 and 2021while he has shown expenditure of Rs 17,80,18,000 including for his daughter’s wedding and son’s movie production. His disproportionate assets are to the tune of Rs 87 crore 44 lakh.

Zameer Ahmed questioned why only he and KPCC chief D K Shivakumar were being targeted.

He also bought a plot measuring 20 guntas for Rs 15 crore and built a house on 10 guntas while the remaining area is a garden. The house has been constructed using granite, marble and sandwich glass with decorative lighting. The ACB has sought documents for all the expenses.

Emerging out of the ACB office, Zameer Ahmed told reporters, “I was asked to furnish documents related to the plot and house. I have presented the same documents which I gave the Enforcement Directorate. Have BJP leaders not built houses? Why am I and KPCC president D K Shivakumar being targeted”, he asked. He also said that he has agreed to appear for further questioning, if necessary.

The ACB has made a list of document and informed Zameer Ahmed that they should be submitted within two months.
