Congress leader Hyder Ali hacked to death, postmortem report reveals 56 machete wounds

BENGALURU: Congress leader Hyder Ali was hacked to death by unidentified assailants near Garuda Mall in Ashok Nagar, Bengaluru. The postmortem report revealed Ali suffered 56 injuries from a machete, including a fractured skull and severed ear.

The post-mortem examination was conducted at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospitals under guidance of Dr Dilip. The miscreants had smashed his skull and cut off his ear. The doctors said that 10 machete marks were found on the body itself, and that the leg muscles were torn out and his face was not recognisable.

The incident occurred around 1 am on Sunday, when Ali was returning from a friend’s house on a bike. The assailants, who were following him on another bike, attacked him with machetes. Hyder, who was lying in a pool of blood, was taken to Bowring Hospital by the police. Hyder, a resident of Anepalya, had already died by then.

Ali’s friend, who was with him during the incident, suffered injuries and is currently hospitalized.

Sheikh Hyder Ali was identified with MLA N A Haris and was also involved in campaigning for the MLA. A murder case has been registered at Ashok Nagar police station in connection with the incident. The police are searching for the accused in the murder and the exact reason for the incident is not known. The police have formed a special team to investigate the case and are searching for the assailants.

Hundreds of people gathered near Bowring Hospital after learning about the incident and expressed their anger by tugging at the hospital gate. The police have now brought the situation under control. As per initial information, Hyder Ali was identified as a social worker. A special team has been formed under the leadership of the Ashok Nagar Inspector to search for the killers. DCP Shekhar said that a search is under way for the killers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shekhar, said that the incident took place near the football stadium gate at 1 am. “The murder victim is a history-sheeter and there are 11 cases against him including murder, common assault and under NDPS Act. Hyder is a rowdy-sheeter of Ashoknagar police station since 2016 and, as per preliminary information, he had no political background.

The police are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence to identify the assailants. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who have demanded swift action against the perpetrators.
