NEW DELHI: The Congress has invited proposals for the 32nd Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration for the year 2022 and 2023. Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is the head of the Advisory Committee of the awards.
The prescribed proforma for a recommendation of the award may be obtained from the office, and the recommendation should reach by September 30.
According to a statement issued by the party, this award was instituted in 1985 by the Indian National Congress (INC) in its centenary year.
The Award is for promoting national integration, understanding, and fellowship amongst religious groups, communities, ethnic groups, cultures, languages, and traditions of India and also to strengthen through thought and action.
“The Award is given on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s Martyrdom Day on October 31. The Award carries a citation and cash amount of Rs 10 lakh to be given either to a person or an institution for the outstanding contribution made to promote national integration,” the statement read.
Recipients of this Award so far have been given to Swami Ranganathananda, Aruna Asaf Ali, Rajiv Gandhi (Posthumously), Sardar Beant Singh (Posthumously), and APJ Abdul Kalam, among others. (ANI)
