BENGALURU: The ruling Congress government in the state has sought internal reports on alleged irregularities in various departments during the BJP’s tenure. Secretaries of respective departments have been asked to submit reports on any irregularities between 2020 and 2023 to target the opposition BJP.

This comes after the government sought reports on alleged irregularities in the Housing Department, specifically targeting former minister V Somanna, now a Union Minister for State for Railways.

Similar investigations are planned for other key departments, including rural development, public works and irrigation. The government’s move is seen as an attempt to trigger probes into departmental irregularities during the BJP’s tenure, following earlier investigations into 40 per cent commission, land denotification and Covid-19-related cases.

Critics argue this is a politically motivated move, targeting BJP leaders, particularly Somanna. Recently, the government had sought a report on alleded illegalities in the housing department and also sought a report from the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation regarding allegations of irregularities in project planning.

After targeting former chief ministers B S Yediyurappa and ally H D Kumaraswamy, Congress is now planning to dig out dirt in the housing department.
