BENGALURU: Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president B Y Vijayendra on Thursday attacked the Congress-led state government over the rising dengue cases in the state and said that it is not “bothered”, adding that BJP will raise the in Assembly.

“This (state) government is not at all bothered. Even the minister concerned is sitting in Bengaluru and not touring the state. The state government has not taken this issue seriously. With each passing day, dengue cases and deaths are increasing. In my constituency, a nine-month-old baby passed away due to dengue. We will raise this issue in the Assembly also”, Vijayendra told reporters.

He further attacked Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and said that he was only interested in real estate. “The present Congress government is least bothered about development of the state. Development works have come to a standstill in the state. Now, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar is talking about renaming Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South. God knows what is the agenda behind this decision. Entire Karnataka knows that Shivakumar is interested only in real estate. I think there is a real estate agenda behind this thinking. It is a political gimmick”, he said.

Karnataka has witnessed over 7,000 cases of dengue so far after which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed the officials to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. He further instructed the officials to allocate 10 beds in a ward at every hospital separately for dengue cases.

Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Tuesday said that they are strictly monitoring the situation adding that all departments have been instructed to keep doing source reduction. “We are monitoring the situation…we have strictly instructed all departments to keep doing source reduction…we have asked Asha workers and volunteers to go house to house…government is working full time…main thing is to control the spread of mosquito and also to stop deaths from happening”, he said.

The cases of dengue are on the surge with advancing monsoon rains in Bengaluru, Karnataka. (ANI)
