BENGALURU: Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said that an exodus from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to other parties is still going on, which shows that there is dissatisfaction the BJP and not the Congress.
Asked if the Karnataka unit of Congress is united, Kharge said, “Definitely. Have you seen any dissidents after announcing the tickets, like in BJP? In the BJP, an exodus to other parties is going on. It means that the greater dissatisfaction is in BJP, not in Congress”.
Kharge said that the people of Karnataka are fed up because the BJP government in the state encouraged corruption in the past 3.5 years of its rule. “People are fed up because, in these years whatever the BJP government did, more or less they encouraged corruption. They were taking 40 per cent commission openly, which was proved by the contractors themselves. Corruption, lack of infrastructure and division among caste and reserved categories — they are doing mischief. But people are united, they want Congress to come to power”, he said.
Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that Congress gave 4 per cent quota to Muslims illegally in Karnataka, Kharge said that the quota was given long back. “This 4 per cent quota was given long back. When Supreme Court didn’t strike it down, why are you people doing this yourself? You (BJP) are snatching away whatever the government gave to the poor and minorities and are creating divisions just for votes”, Kharge added. (ANI)
