Cong leader in dock for siphoning off Rs 80 cr student stipend at Kalaburagi medical college

KALABURAGI: A Congress leader is among four people who are under the scanner for siphoning off over Rs 80 crore in student stipends between 2018 and 2024. A case has been registered under IPC Sections 419, 420 and 34 and the state government is likely to hand over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The president of the Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College (MRMC) and Congress leader Bheemashankar Bilagundi and three other members of the HKE Society have been accused of siphoning off the funds. The case has been registered at the CEN police station.

 

The accused allegedly took self cheques from the medical students beforehand and as soon as the stipend was credited in the students’ accounts, they, in connivance with the staff of a bank, would withdraw the money. Between 2018 and 2024, the accused have allegedly siphoned over Rs 80 which was to go to 282 students, it is alleged.
