Confusion prevails as milk sachets with revised price, volume yet to hit stores

BENGALURU: A day after the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) announced a hike in prices of Nandini brand of milk along with increased volume, confusion prevailed on Wednesday morning as the sachets did not bear the new price or indicate the extra volume of 50 ml.

As per the KMF, the new price along with the increased volume was to come into effect from Wednesday itself, but none of the sachets bore any prints indicating the new price and volume. Also, due to confusion among the sellers, milk was sold at the old price itself at many places. At places where milk was sold at the revised prices, vendors had a tough time answering queries from customers.

The Karnataka Milk Federation has increased prices of Nandini milk by Rs 2.10 per litre effective from June 26. With the revised price, the price of half litre of milk increases from Rs 22 to Rs 24. Each packet of Nandini milk will now contain 50 ml more milk. A one litre packet will now contain 1,050 ml and a half litre packet will have 550 ml of milk.

Sachets with the revised prices and increased volume are expected to hit the markets later in the afternoon. Many customers complained that the government was looting the public and that the revision in milk price would affect the prices food items in hotels.

“The prices has been hiked to fund the government guarantees. For somebody’s benefit, other are being made to suffer. The lower income groups will be affected as the prices of vegetables, milk, diesel and petrol have already gone up. If there is excess milk production, give it to people at lesser price and nobody wastes milk”, many people said.
