BENGALURU: Just three days after the Yellow metro line was opened, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has come in for criticism for causing confusion and inconvenience to passengers. The Yellow Line metro route, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been plagued by a mix-up in the names of stations.

The BMRCL has swapped the names of two stations, Electronic City and Konappana Agrahara, causing confusion among passengers. The Electronic City station has been labelled as Konappana Agrahara, and vice versa. This has resulted in passengers having to pay extra fare and travel an additional distance.

Passengers traveling from the RV Road direction to Electronics City have to buy a ticket for Konappana Agrahara, which is ahead. Similarly, passengers who want to get off at Konappana Agrahara BMTC bus stand have to buy a ticket for the ‘Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara’ Metro station, which is the previous station. This is costing time and extra money.

This blunder has caused inconvenience to passengers, especially the elderly, students and those who are new to this route. Moreover, according to Metro rules, if a passenger travels beyond their destination station, they may be fined Rs 500.

The BMRCL has been questioned about the confusion created by its staff, and passengers are demanding a solution to this problem. The construction phase had the correct names, and boards were also displayed with the correct names, making the recent change even more puzzling.

Meanwhile, citizens are enamored with a video of Metro trains. A drone captured a stunning scene of four Metro trains passing at the same time on the yellow and green lines, with all four trains visible in a single frame. The breathtaking visuals, shot by a drone camera, have gone viral on social media.

Metro passenger Lokesh said, “Metro or BMTC is there for public service. The current name board displayed at the bus stand is creating confusion and we are forced to pay additional charges. This is a burden for the public and BMRCL should maintain the old name for the stations. Do not change according to the wishes of the agency. People from outside the state will get confused in reaching their destinations”.

A student named Mithun said, “At first, I got confused. Moreover, elder citizens will get into trouble. The department concerned should rectify the fault and maintain the old name. I asked BMTC staff, but they said it’s none of their business. This needs to corrected soon”.
