Rekha, a native of Sakleshpur and a resident of KR Puram in Bengaluru was into real estate business. She had an associate, Erappa Gowda, who runs a bakery. She had duped about 10-12 people in Yadgir and Raichur districts to the tune of lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs in a bank, which, she claimed, would be set up by an NGO.

A team of the Shorapur police, led by inspectors Sunil Moolimani and Bapugouda Patil arrested Rekha and brought her to Shorapur.

“In the audio clip, some Congress and BJP leaders’ names can be heard. In this political mud-slinging, innocent people should not be victimised”

In an audio clip where she is heard promising jobs, Rekha had taken the name of Shorapur MLA Raju Gowda, following which the lawmaker had lodged a complaint.

Speaking to the media, the MLA suspected a conspiracy behind the episode and hinted that a big leader’s name would be revealed soon.

“Some people are trying to besmirch my name. I would have apologised if I had done any wrong. If I had not lodged a complaint, many more people may have been cheated”, he said.
