MANDYA: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday inaugurated a speed detector on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway at Ummadahalli gate on the outskirts of Mandya. The speed detectors use latest technology with artificial intelligence-based cameras.
Speaking after inaugurating the speed detector, the CM said, “There was no speed detector and there were many accidents. This month, the number has come down to five whereas last month, there were over 20 accidents. The traffic police will take action based on the data from the speed detectors which have been installed at two locations. It should be installed at every 10 km to reduce accidents”.
Further, the CM said, “Some facilities and safety measures need to be taken on the expressway and directions have been given. I will meet Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari about these issues and also raise the issue of toll being levied on elected representatives. The proposal of Rs 151 crore has been sent for the development of service roads at five places, bypass roads, pedestrian skywalks and the chief secretary has already held a meeting with the NHAI officials. I will also convene a meeting soon and additional works will be taken up after November”.
On the Udupi incident, Siddarmaiah said an FIR has been lodged and added that the law will take its course. “The BJP will indulge in politics even on a dead body”, he remarked.
Siddaramaiah said the work on the expressway was not unscientific, but it lacked certain facilities and safety measures. This is a marked change from the party stand ahead of the Assembly election when many leaders had criticised the work saying it was unscientific.
This was Siddaramaiah’s first visit to the Mandya after assuming office as chief minister. He was greeted with huge garlands by party workers and supporters.
