CHAMARAJANAGAR: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday paid his last respects to former MLA and former warehousing corporation chairman S Jayanna, who died of a heart attack on Monday, at his Kollegal residence. Jayanna was a close aide of CM Siddaramaiah.
The last rites of Jayanna were conducted at Mamballi in Yelandur taluk with full state honours. Ministers Venkatesh and H C Mahadevappa had accompanied the CM. Former MLA Yathindra, MLA Krishnamurthy, Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag, Zilla panchayat CEO Mona Roth were also present.
Jayanna was scheduled to perform the house-warming ceremony of his new house on Thursday. Last week, CM Siddaramaiah had himself unveiled the plaque of the house during his visit to Kollegal.
Speaking after paying his last respects, CM Siddaramaiah said, “We had a long-standing friendship right from our school days. He would accept any decision of mine and was a rare personality in politics. He was a man of few words, gentle and trustworthy. He was elected MLA twice, but he did not get the position he deserved. He would never let go of his ideology come what may and had no enemies. May his soul rest in peace”.
