NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday met Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, party general secretary K C Venugopal and MP Randeep Surjewala at the AICC headquarters in Delhi.

After the meeting, CM Siddaramaiah said that he explained the situation and developments in Karnataka to the party’s high command and called the decision taken by the governor “illegal” and “unconstitutional”.

In a social media post on X, the Congress, on behalf of Siddaramaiah wrote, “I would like to extend my gratitude to the high command, specifically Congress President @kharge ji, Leader of Opposition @RahulGandhi ji, and AICC General Secretary (Organization) @kcvenugopalmp ji. We explained the developments and situation in Karnataka to them. The decision taken by the governor is illegal and unconstitutional”.

Meanwhile, a delegation of leaders from Karnataka also attended the Congress central election committee meeting at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi to discuss the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections.

Earlier on Friday, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao alleged on Friday that there was a conspiracy to target Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and subsequently destabilise the government but said in the same breath, that the rule of law should be followed.

His reaction came as Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot sanctioned prosecution against CM Siddaramaiah in the alleged MUDA site allotment scam earlier in the month. The Chief Minister claimed on August 23 that the Governor sanctioned his prosecution based on “hearsay”. (ANI)
