BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inspected the city on Saturday and addressed various issues related to infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of repairing potholes and ensuring that the work is done with high quality. The CM has given a 30-day deadline to repair all potholes, and officials have been instructed to complete the work within the specified timeframe. He also addressed various issues, including waste management.

The CM has directed the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) officials to provide a proper drainage system near Windsor Manor on Ballari Road, ensuring that water flows smoothly into the drains without accumulating on the road. The CM instructed officials to complete road works, including those at Windsor Manor Circle, during nighttime.

The CM directed BBMP, Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), and police to strictly prevent illegal dumping of construction waste on roads, particularly on ring roads where CCTV cameras are absent. Those found dumping waste will face action, including seizure of vehicles.

The CM emphasized that Metro staff should not neglect service roads during construction. They should ensure proper drainage and repair damaged roads, including white-topping roads, he said.

The CM stressed that contractors are responsible for maintaining roads, including those with white-topping, for 2-3 years after completion. Failure to do so will result in action against contractors and engineers. The CM has given a one-month deadline to repair potholes and make roads passable during the monsoon season.

The CM instructed the police and BBMP to install CCTV cameras and deploy marshals to monitor and take action against those dumping construction waste, particularly at Panathur Kere Cross.

The CM emphasized that pothole repair work should be done with high quality, ensuring that roads are safe. After city rounds, CM responded to various questions. The CM said he directed the authorities to fix the pothole with quality work. “I have now suspended the Assistant Executive Engineer who did not close the pothole properly. He has put gravel and not tar. I have suspended him for that”, he said.

Further, he inspected that white-topping work on Hennur Road. “The white topping has been given to the contractor. They should maintain the road. White topping should be done because citizens are paying Rs 13 crore for every kilometer of road. We are doing 5 km. 30 days have been given. All the roads should be completed in 30 days. All the potholes should be closed”, he said.

“I am not saying that there are no potholes. BJP is not going to blame them now. BJP has not closed the potholes. If they had closed them, this situation would not have come to this. We gave money, but they did not give anything. We are in power now, we will close the potholes. We will close the potholes after the rains are over,” CM said.

Adding to this, out of 16,000 potholes, only 4,000 are left to be repaired. Now we have made 5 corporations. “I have said that the Commissioner and Chief Engineer are responsible,” he added. He emphasized that the government is committed to completing the work within the specified timeframe.

The CM hit back at Tejasvi Surya for his statement that no one should participate in the survey, saying they approached the court. The court also said that the survey should be conducted. We will conduct the survey as per the court direction. 10 lakh people have already been surveyed.

He also instructed to take action regarding garbage, potholes, and everything. If garbage is not removed, if there is garbage when I come and check again, I will take action against the commissioners.

The CM has taken action against officials who failed to meet the expected standards. An Assistant Executive Engineer, Padmaraj, was suspended for poor work quality in pothole repair, specifically for laying gravel instead of tar on the road.

Meanwhile, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar also said priority for smooth traffic system. “I have inspected the road work on the Sumanahalli flyover on Magadi Road in Bengaluru. Our government has decided to repair the roads and fill the potholes, and we are committed to resolving the issue of potholes as quickly as possible to ensure no inconvenience to vehicle riders”, he wrote in a post on X.
