BENGALURU: Of late, government buses have been filled with advertisements, which has raised concerns. While the transport utilities are generating revenue from advertisements, the display of advertisements related tobacco products has sparked public outrage. The issue has also reached the CM’s office.
To recover from losses, transport corporations have allowed advertisements on their buses. Following public outrage, the transport corporation issued a notice to the agency displaying the advertisements, citing the prohibition of tobacco advertisements. According to the agreement, advertisements related to tobacco, liquor, narcotics and obscene content are not allowed.
The corporation has removed the advertisements and issued a notice to the company for violating the agreement. The CM’s office has instructed the removal of tobacco advertisements from government buses, stating that displaying such ads is not suitable for public health and well-being.
This decision comes after a man posted on social media tagging the CM, showing a poster of a tobacco ad on a KSRTC bus, prompting the CM’s office to take action. The CM’s office has directed the transport corporations to ban all tobacco, cigarette and liquor product advertisements on buses. A notice has been issued to the private agency that displayed the ads, citing a violation of transport corporation rules.
