HAVERI: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who was in his home district on Saturday, got emotional while speaking at a programme to launch several development projects and said he owed a debt of gratitude to the people who have showered him with love and added that he would like to be buried there after his passing away.
The CM, who was participating in the DC’s village stay programme at Baada village in Shiggaon taluk, said at least 30,000 people, including fishermen and their children, have got benefits of one scheme or the other and 6,000 people have been given houses.
Noting that Shiggaon is the land of poet-saint Kanakadasa, Bommai said Savanur will witness major transformation. “With your blessings and love, I have become Chief Minister and been able to change the social, economic and educational status of many”, he noted.
The CM also said the government has taken up the construction of 8,000 schools in one year, which has not been done by any other previous government. Primary health centres (PHCs) are being built and a 250-bed hospital is coming up at Shiggaon, he noted.
Already, an Ayurveda college and textile park have come up in the district and the deputy commissioner has been directed to revenue documents door to door. Wherever Revenue Minister R Ashoka conducted village stay programmes, Rs 1 crore has been released for development of those villaged, he added.
