Class 9 student delivers pre-term child at home, recovering in hospital

SHIVAMOGGA: Close on the heels of the Yadgir incident, where a residential school students delivered a child in the school toilet, a 15-year-old Class 9 student has given birth to a baby boy in Shivamogga district.

The girl had skipped school on the grounds of stomach pain and delivered the baby at her house. It is said that her mother assisted in the pre-term delivery. The baby was delivered in the seventh month and weighs 1.8 kg.

After delivery, the girl was admitted to a hospital and is health. As the incident came to light, the child protection unit, the child welfare committee and the police questioned the girl. However, she did not reveal who got her pregnant.

The child welfare committee plans to counsel the girl and her parents and are monitoring both the girl and the newborn closely. The police, meanwhile, have registered a case under the POCSO Act.
