According the KCPCR member Shashidhar Kosumbe, the commission is looking into lapses by the in-charge of the residential school. However, the district deputy commissoner and police superintendent Prithvik Shankar refused to share details stating that the issue was still under investigation.

In a joint statement, the officers said there seem to be administrative lapses and that further action will be taken after receiving a medical report. “We are looking into whether there were any lapses during medical checks and will take action against the hostel staff for not reporting the student being absent”, they said.

The officers visited the hospital on Thursday.

Insisting that no one would be spared, the officers said the investigation is also looking into possible child marriage and if the parents had not revealed information about the student’s pregnancy. “A nodal officer will be appointed to resolve the issues in the hostel and steps will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur”, the said.
