The Class 8 student was allegedly caned for not completing his homework.

BIDAR: A Class 8 student was caned by a teacher for not completing his homework and bringing his Kannada book, at Veerabhadreshwara School at Nittur village in Bhalki taluk. The caning left the student with swollen wounds on his body.

The injured student is Vishwajeeth. According to his father Santhosh, the boy sustained injuries on the back, legs and thighs, due to the caning by teacher Jaishankar, resulting in swelling. He claimed that there were blood clots too.

“I was made to stand in the sun for about an hour after the beating and the teacher then called my father. He then hit me again and wouldn’t stop”, the boy said. His father Santhosh said Vishwajeeth left home for school on that day at 8.30 am and he got a call from the teacher around 3.30 pm complaining that the boy hadn’t brought his books. “I told the teacher that he will bring the books the next day. My son has swollen wounds on his body”, he said.

The Primary Education Department has issued a notice to the school authorities while Bidar SP Channabasavanna Langoti has directed the Dhannura police to investigate the incident.
