Class 2 students don’t know English alphabets; official takes teacher to task

RAICHUR: Assistant Commissioner of Raichur sub-division, Rajinikanth Chauhan, who paid a surprise visit to the Government Primary School at Linganakhanadoddi village on Wednesday, was shocked when he learnt that Class 2 students do not even know English alphabets.

He took the headmaster and teacher to task, questioning them why the students did not know the alphabets. “Then what are you teaching the students? I’m disappointed with the situation”, he noted and strictly warned the teachers to make the students learn English alphabets. “Otherwise, I will come to teach and make them learn in two days”, he remarked.

Reprimanding the teachers, the AC said, “What is the problem with teaching English? You seem to be at so much ease. The government has provided a good building, good classrooms and infrastructure. It is a matter of the children’s future. Just teach them English. Knowledge is wealth for them,” he said, and added that he will visit the school again within a week to check if there is any improvement.

The teacher tried to convince the AC, said that ‘due to the pandemic over the last two years, the learning of the children had taken a beating. She also tried to draw the attention of AC to the shortage of teaching staff. He immediately called the block education officer concerned, informed him about the shortage of teaching staff and asked him to deal with the issue on priority.
