Class 10 student commits suicide, alleges humiliation in death note

BENGALURU: Days after a schoolboy ended his life by jumping off an apartment building, a Class 10 students of Mariyam Nilaya school in Banaswadi committed suicide by hanging, after allegedly being humiliated by her teacher.

The school had conducted a test and Amrutha was caught copying. The teacher then allegedly scolded her in front of her classmates. When her mother came to pick her up later, the teachers informed her about the incident.

Amrutha, who was hurt by the turn of events, was allegedly contemplating suicide and hung herself when there was no one at home on Sunday evening. She also left behind a death note stating that she cannot live with the humiliation.

On Monday, the parents of the girl and others staged a protest with her body on the school premises. “The teachers humiliated my daughter saying that she had copied in the test held on November 2 and even told students of other sections about it. She had never copied in any test or exam so far”, said the girl’s mother Asha.

“Amrutha, a Class 10 student, has committed suicide. We will inquire with the parents and the police will also conduct an investigation. We will submit a report to the higher ups. We will issue notice to the school”, Block Education Officer Jayaprakash said.
