BENGALURU: After much delay, the city’s first ever steel bridge at Shivananda Circle in the city is all set to be opened to traffic in the next two days.
From the time work on the steel bridge was completed, there have been hurdles to its full-fledged opening. Some motorists complained that the bridge shook while the asphalt came off in just a week’s time. Potholes too had surfaced.
Now, all these have been rectified and the surface levelled. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Engineer Lokesh is optimistic that the bridge will be opened to the public in two days’ time.
“One carriageway has already been opened to traffic. We have taken up level and profile correction work. As soon as it is completed, we will open the other carriageway also to traffic. The steel bridge has been built as per Indian Road Congress (IRC) specifications and there is no bar on any type of vehicle. However, we have imposed height restrictions in view of the railway overbridge in between”, he said.
