BENGALURU: In yet anothe case of honeytrapping, an industrialist from Chamarajpet was forced to cough up Rs 50,000 after he was threatened that his recorded video calls would be leaked.
The businessman had initially transferred the money to a bank account, but when he started getting calls for more money, he decided to approach the police and lodged a complaint with the Central division CEN police station.
Senior police officials have warned citizens not to give out the phone numbers at malls, shopping centres, petrol pumps, while shopping online, etc. These may land in the hands of cyber fraudsters who use pictures of girls as display and send messages to targets like businessmen and officials. After recording video calls, the cyber fraudsters then start blackmailing the victims and extort them of money, the police cautioned.
