BENGALURUL: The capital city is reeling under the chaos caused by heavy rainfall, leaving citizens frustrated and angry with the government and civic body. People are demanding that along with the five guarantees, the government should also provide a “boat guarantee” to help them navigate the flooded streets.
The city’s pre-monsoon showers have been intense, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting daily life. Citizens are struggling to venture out of their homes, and the situation is exacerbating their frustration. The main reason behind this chaos is the government’s lack of preparedness to tackle the rains, they feel.
Many infrastructure projects in the city have been pending for months and the government failed to complete them before the monsoon season. Additionally, the authorities have not taken any steps to clean and maintain the stormwater drains and sewage systems, resulting in waterlogging in many areas.
Citizens are fed up with the situation and are venting their anger on social media, demanding that the government announce a “Boat Guarantee” for each ward, in addition to the existing five guarantees.
They mocked that with the present state of the roads and flooding, there’s no guarantee of reaching home safely, even if they start from their doorstep. The citizens are urging the government to take responsibility for the city’s infrastructure and provide better services to its residents.
An individual, who did not want to be named, said, “There are no achievements by the Congress party, they’re just lying. There are no development taking place in the city, just looting of public money. The Congress leaders are just showing off; nothing is being done. I do not know when Bengalureans’ anger will erup to teach a lesson to the CM and all of them. People are suffering as the roads are dug up everywhere and none of the work is getting completed. Karnataka has come to a standstill”.
Palani from Basavanagudi said, “Boat guarantee is the best plan to avoid untoward incidents during rainfall, because no one can go with a vehicle on the road during monsoon. Everywhere, I could see potholes in the road. We can ride two-wheelers, but should be careful about damage and drainages. At least, the government should do something for the public, keeping their interest in mind”.
Aravind said, “I am from Sunkenahalli ward; I do not know where the local MLA is or what he is doing in such a situation. The whole night we did not sleep because water entered the house and family members were engaged in clearing it. None of the politicians are concerned about poor people. The government is imposing taxes on everything, but they are not able to provide basic infrastructure”.
