BENGALURU: A small group of citizens and JDS party workers celebrated ‘Pothole Deepavali’ on Monday evening after raising several complaints to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) about the poor state of roads.

Citizens celebrated the ‘Pothole Deepavali’ near Nyayanga Layout Road.

“Today, we celebrated pothole Deepavali at the road connecting Nyayanga Layout from the National Highway Road. This is a railway underpass constructed by BBMP and the Railways. Drainage water from BWSSB lines continuously flows on to the road, and many commuters fall and suffer serious injuries because of the potholes on this road. We urge citizens of the city to celebrate ‘Pothole Deepavali’ to avoid pothole accidents,” said citizens of Nyayanga Layout.

JDS party workers celebrated ‘Pothole Deepavali’ by bursting firecrackers on the bad roads around Majestic.

The motive behind the celebration is to get the attention of BBMP officials to repave the road with asphalt.

On the occasion of Deepavali, the Janata Dal (Secular) also staged a dramatic protest in Majestic area by celebrating Pothole Deepavali. BBMP officials visited the spot on Tuesday and inspected the areas after videos of the ‘pothole Deepavali’ went viral.
