BENGALURU: Recently, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar showcased his bike riding skills on some roads and flyovers in the city and also inspected the potholes. Now, citizens have challenged him to ride his motorcycle on the potholed roads of their areas. Locals feel he should experience the difficulties they face daily.

The Panathur-Varthur main road is in a pathetic state, resembling a rural pathway more than a city road. The road is riddled with deep craters and poor drainage infrastructure, making it difficult for residents. The area is densely populated, with numerous apartments and schools, and the poor road conditions have made daily commutes a nightmare for them.

The residents are fed up with the situation and are demanding action from the government. They point out that the road conditions have led to numerous accidents, including a recent incident where a private school bus got stuck in slush. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the residents are worried that it’s only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs.

The residents are challenging DK Shivakumar to ride his motorcycle on their poor potholed roads, just for 100 meters, to experience the difficulties they face daily. They are also demanding that the government either fix the roads or return their tax money so they can develop the infrastructure themselves.

Bharat, a daily road user, said, “I use this road regularly. The situation of the road is becoming worse day by day. Driving on this road during monsoon is a nightmare. It is taking half an hour to travel 100 metres. No one is taking responsibility here. The Palike is doing road repairs just for namesake. The road gets damaged two-three days after the repair. It is risky to life commute on this road; there is no safety here”.

“Don’t go on high-fi roads like MG Road or somewhere else by taking a motorcycle; just come here and hear our issues. This is also a part of Bengaluru. Come here where the highest taxpayers are living”, Rekha challenged the Deputy CM.
