HUBBALLI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a 494-pages chargesheet in the Anjali Ambigera murder case, which had created shock waves in Hubballi.

The chargesheet was submitted before the Hubballi 3rd Additional District Court and JMFC Court. According to the chargesheet, Anjali was murdered because she had distanced herself from the attacker Girish.

Anjali Ambigera was stabbed to death by the accused Girish at her house in Hubballi on May 15. Anjali had reportedly rejected the marriage proposal of Girish, who claimed to be in love with her.

The CID has listed 85 witnesses, including CCTV footage, eyewitnesses, the mother of the killer, and hotel staff where Girish was working, in the chargesheet.

The accused, Girish, was working at MSC Pub and Bar at Maharaja Hotel premises in Mysuru. Anjali visited Girish 3-4 times while she was working. In April 2024, the two had a fallout and Anjali stopped receiving Girish’s calls. Besides, she had also blocked Girish’s number. Angered by this, he went to Hubballi and murdered her early in the morning, the chargesheet says.

Girish had brought a knife from Mysuru and had bought a mask near the Mysuru bus stand to avoid being recognised. After the murder, he fled and was eventually caught by the railway police on May 17 while traveling from Mysuru to Belagavi by Vishwamanava Express.

He was caught while traveling with women passengers in the train and had gotten injured after jumping from a moving train near Davangere. Four police officers were suspended in the Anjali murder case. Now, the chargesheet has been filed 98 days after the murder.
