CHITRADURGA: An man was swept away by the overflowing waters of the Vani Vilas Sagar dam at Hiriyur, Chitradurga district, but fortunately survived as locals rushed to his rescue.
The incident occurred when the dam’s gates were opened, and thousands of tourists gathered to witness the scene. In a reckless move, the unidentified man ventured too close to the rushing water and was swept away. However, thanks to the timely intervention of the public and the police, who used ropes to rescue him, the young man was pulled to safety.
The man, who narrowly escaped death, expressed his gratitude and relief at being alive. Despite strict warnings from the police and district administration to avoid swimming in the dam’s waters, some young people continue to take risks, putting their lives in danger.
Locals said the police department to increase awareness among tourists and locals about the importance of safety and the risks associated with venturing into restricted areas.
