BENGAlURU: A three-year-old child was rescued from locals after a video went viral wherein the mother was accused of torturing and assaulted him. The incident took place in Veerabhadra Nagar near Girinagar.
Following the viral video, the child has been handed over to the Children’s Commission which directed the couple to undergo counselling. It also said that the baby would be returned after resolution of the case and it warned them to take good care of the child.
In the video, multiple injury marks are seen all over the child’s body and his fingers are swollen.
It is alleged that the mother used to assault the child when asked for food. She would lock him inside the house when she would go out for work in the morning and return in the evening. When some locals noticed her leaving her child alone at home, they took her to task and expressed outrage.
It is reported that the incident happened two weeks ago. The woman does not live with her husband and a friend of her’s used to come to the house to feed the child in the afternoon.
Locals told the media that the child was asking for food from inside the window and there were multiple scars on the body. The child claimed that his uncle hit him with a cooker. The incident came to light on February 19.
The mother of the child, Shareen, denied her son’s allegations and said that she did not beat him to death. She also denied that he was with a cooker and said she would hit him often to teach him lessons. The child grew up elsewhere and was not ready to stay with her, she claimed.
Shareen said, “It’s been 15 days since I shifted to the rented house. My son was with me for 4-5 months and then he started saying he doesn’t like me. Currently, my son is in custody of the Child Welfare Commission. I don’t want the baby right now, let my husband keep him. He has agreed to take care of the child. I will meet him once in a while whenever I get a chance”.
