BENGALURU: The city police have taken a unique initiative by opening child-friendly rooms in police stations for the first time. The rooms have been set up at the Magadi Road, Vijayanagar and Govindaraj Nagar police stations in the west division of the city.
The child-friendly rooms are specially designed to make them feel comfortable and have wall writings and paintings that educate them about laws. The rooms are designed to be child-centric and have special arrangements to attract children.
The police department has taken this initiative because, in recent times, children, who are victims of abuse, are often too scared to report the incidents to the police due to fear. The police want to change this perception and make children feel more comfortable approaching them.
The police plan to take this one step forward by organizing visits to these child-friendly rooms for school children once a month. During these visits, children will be educated about laws. The police hope that this initiative will help build trust between children and the police and encourage children to report cases of abuse without fear.
