NEW DELHI: Chikkaballapur BJP MP Dr K Sudhakar spoke in the Lok Sabha on Monday under Rule 377 to draw the attention of the House regarding the long-pending permanent irrigation solution to the plains (Bayaluseeme) region in Karnataka.
Dr Sudhakar stressed on the depleting ground water levels in Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Tumakuru districts and urged that there is a need to find a permanent solution for irrigation woes of farmers in the region.
Dr Sudhakar suggested the construction of a canal from Krishna river in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to transport at least 5 tmc ft water to the region. He also suggested to come up with special catchment area development plans along Palar, Pennar and Chitavrati rivers areas and rejevunation of small river bodies in the region.
A permanent solution to drinking water and irrigation needs in Bayaluseeme region was a promise made by Sudhakar during his campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.
