Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai pays tribute to STF jawan who died in Naxal attack

RAIPUR: Chattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday attended a wreath-laying ceremony for a Special Task Force jawan, Bharat Lal Sahu, who lost his life in the July 17 attack by Naxals in the Tarrem area of Bijapur district. The CM also offered tribute to the jawan and carried the mortal remains.

Talking about the attack, Sai said, “The incident occurred on July 17. An IED blast occurred in Bijapur, which left two of our STF jawans dead and four other jawans injured. The four injured soldiers are now out of danger”. Further, he said that the state is working to fight strongly against Naxalism and that they will end it. “We have been fighting strongly against Naxalism. We will end Naxalism in the state soon”, he said.

Two security personnel lost their lives and four others were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Naxal attack in Bijapur district. On receiving intelligence about the presence of Naxal of Darbha Division, West Bastar Division and Military Company No.2 in the border area between Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma, teams of STF, DRG, CoBRA and CRPF from the said districts went on in a joint operation on July 16, 2024,’ the police said.

The deceased jawans have been identified as Constable Bharat Sahu, a resident of Raipur, and Constable Satyer Singh Kange, a resident of Narayanpur. The security personnel who were part of an anti-Naxal operation in the district were returning from the search operation when the incident happened.

According to the police, additional security forces were sent to the area and arrangements were made for the treatment of the injured STF jawans.

Earlier, on July 17, in a significant anti-Naxal operation, security forces launched a major offensive at Wandoli village on the Maharashtra-Chattisgarh border, leading to the deaths of 12 naxals and the recovery of a substantial cache of arms. (ANI)
