KARWAR: A cheating case has been registered against former MLC JD(S) candidate S L Ghotnekar by Somasingh Arasinageri, president of Haliyal Chhatrapati Shivaji Education Trust of Uttara Kannada district.
Ghotnekar is accused of transferring Rs 40 lakh from the Haliyal Chhatrapati Shivaji Multipurpose Cooperative Society to a fake bank account. Police sources said he cheated the trust by producing fake documents at the sub-registrar office at Haliyal and transferred money by using fake seal of the trust.
A case has been registered at the Haliyal police station.
