CCB police nab two drug dealers, seize 1,500 kg of ganja worth Rs 12 crore, vehicle with secret compartment

BENGALURU: The women’s protection wing of theCentral Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested two drug dealers from Visakhapatnam and seizd 1,500 kg of ganja worth Rs 12 crore in the international market from the duo.

The arrested are Chandrabhan Bishnoi of Rajasthan and Lakshmi Mohan Das Andhra Pradesh. The police have also seized a goods vehicle which had a secret compartment for smuggling ganja. While Bishnoi is a MBA student, Das is a BA graduate.

Police commissioner B Dayananda said the CCB team, in plainclothes traced the accused for three weeks in Visakhapatnam and arrested them. They would procure ganja from locals in the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border and transport to the southern states.

“In all, three interstate ganja smugglers have been arrested in the case so far. Most of the ganja was coming into Bengaluru”, the police commissioner said.

Earlier, the CCB police had arrested one Salman Pasha in Chamarajpet police limits in connection with the drug peddling case. Based on the information provided by him, Bishnoi and Lakshmi Mohan Das were arrested, the police commissioner said.

The vehicle, bearing Rajasthan registration, had a secret compartment under the goods carrier where the ganja would be stored and smuggled to states. The accused would also use fake number plates on the vehicle while in the goods carrier section, there would be shipments of an popular e-commerce company. Sometimes, they would hide the ganja in the shipments also, the police said.
