BENGALURU: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police conducted a sting operation and arrested eight people for selling tickets to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) match in the black market. The CCB handed over the accused to the Cubbon Park police for further investigation.
The police suspect some officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) might be involved in supplying tickets to these black marketers, who allegedly sell them at double the original price. Fans have been facing difficulties buying tickets online as they get sold out within minutes of going live.
The CCB is now investigating the source of these black tickets and probing the masterminds behind this racket.
The Crime Branch and Bengaluru City Police have also arrested three kingpins involved in live betting during the RCB verses Delhi Capitals match inside the stadium. The accused, Dhruv Mittal from Rajasthan, Rohit Ranjan and Vijay Kumar from Jakkur, were caught red-handed.
Dhruv Mittal was operating betting apps and had Rs 75 lakh from him, including Rs 63 lakh in the app wallet and Rs 13 lakh in his bank account. Rohit Ranjan was conducting ball-to-ball betting from within the stadium, providing live updates to his associates a couple of minutes before TV broadcast.
Vijay Kumar was operating a betting app and had Rs 10 lakh in the wallet. The CCB has seized a total of Rs 85 lakh from the three accused and taken up further investigation.
