BENGALURU: The first ever Cauvery Aarti was performed in a grand manner at Sankey Tank today to pay tribute to the Cauvery River, the city’s primary water source. An idol of Ganga is installed on a floating platform.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar performed puja to River Cauvery on a floating platform at Sankey Tank. He said, “Tomorrow is World Water Day. We’ve organized a massive pledge-taking ceremony, Cauvery aarati, to conserve water. Over 25 MLAs have arrived. We’ve brought water from Talacauvery and performed a puja”.

Shivakumar emphasized the importance of water conservation, saying, “Water is essential for life, we must preserve it. Without water, there is no religion, no God. There are mythological temples around here. No one lives without water, we should bow to water. We’ll take a pledge to conserve water and ensure Bengaluru doesn’t face water scarcity during summer”.

He said, “We will perform the Cauvery aarti at the KRS dam by Dasara. No matter how difficult it is, there should be no water shortage in Bangalore in the summer at any cost. We have brought a float from Mumbai. Artists have come from Coimbatore and Tamil Nadu. Earth, air, and water are all pure. This programme is organised to save our history, legacy, and culture”.

The Cauvery aarati programme is being held for the first time. A committee will be formed to make this programme a regular event. The government aims to provide water to Bengaluru through the fifth stage of the Cauvery water supply scheme.

A group performed the aarthi on the floating platform. Thousands of people gathered at Sankey Tank to see the beauty of culture. Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, MLA of Pulakeshi Nagar constituency and AC Srinivas also participated.
