Cash and goods worth Rs 76.30 cr seized in less than a month in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: In poll-bound Karnataka, the Election Commission and flying squads are keeping a hawk’s eye on unaccounted cash and gift articles being transported, mainly at the various checkposts set up across the state. Almost three week after the announcement of the model code of conduct (MCC) on March 29, the officials have cumulatively seized unaccounted cash and other material worth over Rs 75 crore in various parts of Bengaluru.

The seizures include cash, goods, liquor and drugs worth Rs 76 crore including Rs 11.35 crore in cash, 5.95 lakh litres of liquor worth Rs.25.91 crore and 377 kg of drugs worth Rs 10.26 crore. Apart from this, Rs 17 crore worth of gold, gifts and 49,937 items worth Rs 5.74 crore have been seized.

So far, 2,894 FIRs related to election irregularities have been registered, according to the officials.
