VIJAYAPURA: A case has been registered against Vijayapura BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and Telangana’s Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh for making provocative remarks during the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj jayanti celebrations held here a two days ago. The case was registered based on a complaint by Congress leader Mohammed Tapal.

A huge crowd had gathered for the Shivaji Jayanti in Vijayapura.

A huge celebration was organised on March 4 to mark the occasion wherein Raja Singh was invited as chief guest. A huge procession was taken out from Ram Mandir to Shivaji Circle where a massive public meeting was held. According to Mohammed Tapal, instead of speaking about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s leadership, valour or administration, the leaders made provocative remarks.

According to Mohammed Tapal, Raja Singh said, “Ab gali gali mein Afzal Khan, Aurangzeb hai…Isi liye gali gali mein Shivaji Maharaj banana hai. Agar mere haat mein Home ministry hota, ghuske encounter kar ke ek bhi Pakistani ko nahi chodta, ghar se bahar aate hi ‘Jai Bharat Mata’, ‘Jai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’ karta”.

“They only tried to disturb peace in Vijayapura. There are many eyewitnesses. They used objectionable words against one community. There has been no animosity between any communities here. They should be arrested and punished at the earliest to send a message to society. It is unfortunate that we have such an MLA”, Mohammed Tapal said.

The Gandhi Chowk police have registered a case against the two BJP MLAs under IPC Sections 153, 506, 504, 505(2) and taken up further investigation.
