BENGALURU: Two cars fell into a pit beside the highway near Chandapura on Saturday mornng. Fortunately, the four people in the cars were safe.
The National Highways Authority of India had been carrying out construction work on the side of the road and had dug a pit using an excavator, leaving it unattended. There were no warning signs or caution boards placed along the highway, which stretches for a long distance with pits dug out on the sides.
The lack of attention to safety has been criticized as an example of the highway authority’s negligence and unscientific construction practices, which put innocent people’s lives at risk. The stretch of highway is known for its daily traffic congestion, which stretches for kilometers.
