Caretaker steals cash, gold jewellery worth Rs 1.57 crore from employer’s house, arrested

BENGALURU: A caretaker was arrested by Chamarajapet police for stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 1.57 crore from her employer’s house. The accused caretaker is Uma.

The complainant, Radha, a businessman, had hired Uma to take care of her ailing sister, Sujatha, three months ago.

Uma allegedly stole Rs 67 lakh in cash, which was the proceeds from the sale of a property and kept in an almirah in the house, gold jewellery and silver worth Rs 95 lakh from the complainant’s home.

On June 9, the complainant opened the almirah and found that there was no money or jewellery. When the CCTV camera was checked, it was revealed that the caretaker woman had gone out on June 4 morning with a bag in her hand. Later, she returned home at 6.30 pm the same day.

The police arrested Uma and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 60 lakh from her daughter’s home. The investigation is ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items.
