VIJAYAPURA: A rashly driven MUV climbed on to the footpath and crashed into furniture and other articles belonging to some 10 hotels and shops and a couple of parked two-wheelers at Sarawad village in Babaleshwar taluk on Monday night.
Some of the employees of a hotel, who were sleeping inside, had a narrow escape. The driver of the vehicle, who hails from Vijayapura, was said to be heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
The Mahindra Xylo (KA 28 M 9169) is registered to one Vitthal Googyal of Vijayapura. Locals caught hold of the driver and handed him over to the police. The Babaleshwar police have registered a case.
