CHIKKODI: Kagwad Congress MLA Raje Kage has stoked a controversy when he questioned if there were nobody else who could become prime minister if Narendra Modi dies.

Addressing party workers at Mamadapura in Kagwad taluk on Tuesday evening, the MLA said, “I am a graduate and even I am intelligent. I’m no dullard. I have the confidence that even I can run the country well. If Modi dies, is there no one among the 140 crore population who is capable of becoming PM? Today, the youth chant only ‘Modi, Modi’. What will you do with that? Lick it? Voters want Laxman Savadi, Raju Kage and Satish Jarkiholi at the lower level, but Modi on the top. We are the ones who respond to people’s problems, not him”, he remarked.

Referring to BJP MP Annasaheb Jolle and his wife Shashikala Jolle, the Congress MLA said even they sek votes in the name of Modi. “Will Modi come here? He is contesting from Varanasi. You (Annasaheb Jolle) are the one contesting from here, what have you achieved? The question of Modi does not arise here. Who responds to your problems here, isn’t it us? Then why should Modi be at the top (Centre)?” he said.

Raju Kage also said, “You don’t know, he has an airplane worth Rs 3,000 crore and his clothes cost Rs 4-5 lakh each. If we had such money, we would have left our families and become hermits”.
